The origin of the name comes from the luster of the blue and white light emitted by cutting a highly transparent feldspar into a cabochon to resemble the moon. As you can imagine from the name, it is said to be "the gem that confined the moon". In Europe, moonstone has long been worn as a talisman for travelers. Moonstone is called "a stone that symbolizes women", "a stone that calls love", and a "stone of foreknowledge and clairvoyance". It has been treated as a mysterious stone since ancient times.

In particular, those with a blue schiller effect are called "blue moonstones", and those that shine in seven colors are called "rainbow moonstones (white labradorite)".
